Kobold bard traveler

Once upon a time, in a den of scoundrels and thieves, there lived a kobold unlike any other. Born into a family of ruthless brigands, his days were filled with robbery and plunder. Yet, while his brothers reveled in violence, he was repulsed by it. The mere sight of blood made him shudder. What fascinated him instead were the wonders of art, music, poetry, and storytelling.

He was an oddity among his kin—a dreamer amidst marauders. They mocked his peculiarities, calling him weak and useless, but he couldn’t deny the yearning in his heart for beauty and creation.

His life changed one fateful day when he stumbled upon a stolen satchel during one of his family's raids. Inside was an old, worn-out lute and a stack of parchment filled with beautiful tales and poems of adventure. He held the lute in his claws, feeling its weight and imagining the melodies it once sang. As he read the verses, his heart raced with excitement. It was as if the bard’s words had ignited a flame within him. In that moment, he knew his destiny.

Leaving behind his family and their cruel ways, he set out to become a bard. Determined and full of passion, he taught himself to play instruments and strummed the lute until his fingers ached. But the world was harsh and unforgiving. Villagers shunned him, unwilling to listen to a kobold’s songs. He was mocked, ridiculed, and driven away countless times. Yet, even as hope wavered, his spirit remained unbroken. He told himself that all he needed was a companion—someone to support him on his journey.

One day, while wandering through ancient ruins, his eyes caught the glint of jewels embedded in a strange artifact. They sparkled with an otherworldly glow. “Maybe I can trade this for a better instrument,” he thought, carefully tucking it into his pouch. But fate had other plans. As he made his way out, he tripped over a hidden trap, and the artifact tumbled from his bag, shattering against the stone floor.

A thick, black smoke burst forth, swirling and twisting until it took shape. Before him stood a woman of ethereal beauty, her eyes glowing with a crimson hue. She stretched, her wings unfurling as she spoke, “You have freed me from my prison. In return, I shall grant you your heart’s deepest desire—power, wealth, glory... name it, and it is yours.”

But the kobold barely heard her words. He was too busy gathering his scattered belongings, grumbling to himself as he dusted off his lute. The demon stared, puzzled by his indifference. She cleared her throat and repeated, “Mortal, do you not wish for anything? Riches? Power? Dominion over your enemies?”

He looked up at her, scratching his head. “Huh? Oh... well, I don’t need any of that. I just... I just want someone to help me play music. It’s tough trying to be a one-kobold band.”

The demon blinked, stunned by his reply. Then, she laughed—a sound like ringing bells mixed with the crackle of flames. “Of all the mortals I’ve encountered, never have I met one as peculiar as you.” She grinned, her fangs glinting in the dim light. “Very well. I shall be your companion. Together, we will create music that echoes across realms, and your name shall be known far and wide.”

His eyes widened with joy. “Really? You’d do that?”

“Indeed,” she replied, a curious glint in her eyes. “This will be... amusing.”

And so, the unlikely duo set off on their journey, a kobold with dreams of becoming a bard and a powerful demon who found herself strangely enchanted by his innocence. Little did he know, she was bound not by magic but by fascination, her heart slowly swayed by his unwavering spirit.
